Can I be honest? I don’t like the spring. Between the change of weather and plants blooming, I can’t seem to get my throat and eyes to stop itching. Not to mention all of the sneezing and stuffy nose issues. In addition to that, we get to lose an hour of sleep because of daylight savings. That means that instead of getting up at 4:30 am today, it felt like I was getting up at 3:30 am. Yep I said it right- 3:30am!
The truth is that I would be just fine dealing with all of the allergy symptoms and even the loss of an hour for daylight savings, but the real reason why I don’t like the spring is because of the other losses it reminds me of. This week I tried to pace myself, but on Thursday it hit me like a ton of bricks. I received a letter from the daughter of our dear Elder Kevin Thornton thanking the worship ministry for the tribute at his funeral. This past Thursday was the 6-month anniversary of his death. In addition to that, I’m also remembering my grandmother this coming Saturday as that is the 1-year anniversary of her death. I could go on and on about how this coming Saturday I’m also ministering at another friend’s funeral, while also remembering my worship ministry intern Amy Nackeeran and her family as they remember losing her dad towards the end of this month.
Why am I sharing this? Not because I want to be a downer, but because I want to be real. Real in saying that while I believe, love, and trust the Lord, I am still grieving the loss of loved ones. I know it’s been 6-months, a year, or maybe even multiple years of grief, but I can’t seem to get over it. You see, I’m still very much in the grieving process, and you might be too. Maybe you’ve lost loved ones, a job, a relationship, money, etc. No matter where you find yourself in the process, know that it’s ok. You don’t have to just get over it. Allow God to walk you through it. The Holy Spirit was sent to be a comforter so you would not have to walk through this alone.
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.”
John 14:16 NIV
